I knew for a long time that I was meant to speak and write, but I sat.
I waited.
For what, I don’t know.
It was a long time, years even, that I did nothing about what I felt I should be doing. As I continued sitting on it, I took a group of ladies from our church to a Women of Faith Conference and that’s when things changed.
God got my attention.
I had to tell somebody about this undefined desire, whatever it was.
Fact: No one is touched when creative dreamers dream, then wait for God to make the dream happen (read “do nothing”) .
Closet creatives, like I was, won’t even tell their spouse or closest friends, much less talk with God about it. They have the wish to create something of value, but just wait, as if one day,
automagically,
they’ll have finished their creative bucket list.
Creative dreams need a voice and a plan to become a reality.
My next step to fulfill the dream of speaking and writing was to try to put it into words.
Afterward, I had to tell my best friend Lou in the stadium seat next to me. Then I had to call my husband as soon as I could.
By telling these important people in my life,
I defined,
put words to and
gave voice to this vision and inner calling.
What about you? Is there something niggling at you? Something you need to create? Something you need to put words to and tell somebody?

I LOVE this, Robin! I’m so thankful you chose to move ahead instead of waiting for it to automagically happen! (Did you create “automagically”????
Thanks, Vonda.
I don’t know if I can take credit for creating automagically. I’ve never seen it in print.
I tend to make up words that give meaning to my thoughts. It’s usually a blending of words.
Such are my mixed up expressions. Doesn’t automagically fit perfectly?
Thanks for the encouragement, Robin! I needed a little “kick in the pants”! I wrote like crazy for a few weeks and then got stuck in vacay mode!
Blessings!
Hi Kristi. I agree.
It’s hard to kick ourselves out of “vacay mode,” but no one else can produce the art that we are meant to create.
We have to make the sacrifice and show up for work.
Happy writing!!
Kristi. Will you please tell us what motivates you to write. What kind of writing/art do you create?
Good Morning, Robin!
There has been a book on my heart for over 10 years. It’s a book for women about how Jesus is the filler of our needs. Yep, 10 years. What’s taking so long? Honestly, some lack of discipline. Some time purposed by God to actually internalize the message. And some (again God-inspired) rabbit trails along the way…or rather groundhog trails. I’ve written 2 children’s books (self-published and illustrated by my Dad…precious gift from God). One of the books is about forgiveness. Although it is a story about two sibling groundhogs, forgiveness is a journey that I trudged through…much in ministry…and some that’s just a part of life. Funny how God uses our experiences. Yeah, so in the middle of the call to write a book for women, God took me on a groundhoggy detour that has been a true delight. I have other groundhog books playing hide-and-seek in my brain. But I feel a compulsion to get this women’s book done. I led 2 women’s retreats using that message and KNOW that I need to “do the work”!!
Praying for you and dear sweet Vonda as you do your work. Wow! What a team!!
If you think of me, I’d love for you to whisper a prayer on my behalf.
Hugs
What a great story about doing the work! And congratulations on the groundhog books. What a joy to create something with your dad!
Often, it takes time to grow into some of the things we need to create. And growing isn’t easy. The discipline is difficult. In the process, we need encouragement and prayer. I cringe with every question like, “Have you finished that book yet?” It’s tough.
And yes, consider yourself whispered over: May God richly give you direction, inspiration and motivation to do the hard work of developing the creation that would make him smile. IT is his after all.
Blessings galore!
Thank you, Robin, for the sweet blessings, words of encouragement, and the prayer. Yes, the work is His. Oh, may He find me faithful.
Headed to sort laundry, get a load in the wash, turn off the internet, and strap myself to a chair and get some pecking done!!
Happy writing!
I have no greater joy than to see my children walking in the truth.
You both touch my heart!
